Previous Scholarship Recipient Testimonials

"With the funds from the 2025 Jenna Sue Souza Furst Memorial Scholarship, it helped my family afford my university’s tuition. The money has gone towards the classes I have taken, which are guiding me to achieve my bachelors degree in molecular biology. The funds have given me the opportunity to take a variety of STEM courses and labs, which has allowed me to interact with science in a completely new way. I am planning on graduating from UCSC in May of 2029 and would like to attend medical school to become a dermatologist."

2025 Scholarship Recipient

"In 2025 I was one of the recipients for the Jenna Sue Souza Furst memorial scholarship. This scholarship to me, was more than an opportunity to help fund my college. For me this was about a greater cause that is more important and impactful on my personal life. Helping to advocate for others and all the struggles that accompany mental health.

This scholarship allowed me to experience community at the University of Nevada, Reno (UNR) and help to discuss barriers surrounding mental health. At UNR I have began to focus on mental health research. I am currently studying public health and plan to continue onto nursing where I hope to continue to advocate for mental health as a psychiatric nurse."

"I’m extremely honored and grateful to have been the first scholarship recipient of the Jenna Sue Souza Furst Memorial Scholarship Fund in 2024. The money has helped me immensely with my college education. This spring I will be graduating with an Associates in Psychology, and plan to train as an EMT before eventually becoming a firefighter."

2024 Scholarship Recipient

"Hello everyone! My name is Madison Tatum and I am one of three recipients of a $1,000 scholarship in 2025. The 2025 Jenna Sue Souza Furst Memorial Scholarship provided me with the ability to pay for books and campus mandatory fees as a California State University, Sacramento student. I plan on graduating from Sacramento State in 2029 with a degree in psychology in hopes of becoming a counselor for children, providing them with the skills and tools necessary for turning difficult moments into proof of resilience and strength."
